Welcome to the moment of a lifetime in Puerto Rican history!
This summer of 2025 is not just about Bad Bunny coming home for a residency tour—it’s your chance to immerse yourself in Puerto Rico culture through authentic experiences that showcase the heart and soul of our island!
His latest album, “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS” (I Should Have Taken More Photos), is more than just a record.
In my opinion, it’s a journey through Puerto Rican identity that many locals identify with and sparks interest in others to discover the rich heritage of our island.
With both Carlos and I being Puerto Rico-born and raised (wepa!), it’s only natural that I would use this opportunity to guide you into what this hype is about and why the best time to visit Puerto Rico is NOW!
What Makes THIS Moment Special?
When Bad Bunny titled his album “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS,” he captured something uniquely Puerto Rican: our love for preserving moments, sharing stories, and celebrating our culture.
Apart from including musical influences like Bomba y Plena—our folkloric music and dance and the old school reggaeton vibes, this album also has a few lyrics that give us a special feeling.
For the Puerto Rican diaspora, it somehow brings us back to some of the most cherished memories with our loved ones, especially while growing up.
Like those afternoons en el balcón de Abuelita con la taza de café (on Grandma’s balcony with a cup of coffee), parranda with family and friends, and truly living in the moment.
Through his music, it’s a fact that Bad Bunny has led the world to the streets where reggaetón was born.
But this moment is special because it brings us back to the beaches where we gather with family and the traditions that shape our beautiful Isla del Encanto… ¡Borinquen!
His residency tour offers you the chance to create your own memory-filled experiences in the places that not only inspired his music but are deeply woven into our Puerto Rican heritage and culture.
As an advocate of slow travel, I invite you to be influenced by our contagious Boricua energy and immerse yourself in the uniqueness of our island.
In other words, it’s time to go “tierra adentro” (inland) and explore beyond the well-known tourist spots.
It’s time to experience, live, and fall in love with the Puerto Rican CULTURE!
Must-Experience Cultural Spots
Music preferences aside, there’s no denying that the catchy reggaetón beats and rhythmic salsa resonating through Old San Juan’s cobblestone streets, while the aroma of Puerto Rican food drifts from nearby restaurants, is an experience that awakens ALL your senses.
But for the real deal—the most authentic experiences—you’ll need to explore our vibrantly unique cultural heritage.
Whether you visit during the “No Me Quiero Ir De Aquí” Bad Bunny Residency Tour dates or simply want to discover the best ways to enjoy your stay on our island, I’ve got you covered.
To help you navigate like a local (especially if this is your first visit), I’ll focus most of my recommendations on San Juan and the Metropolitan area, with one special exception you don’t want to miss.
From hidden local spots to must-try experiences, here’s your insider’s guide on how to experience Puerto Rico como un verdadero Boricua (like a true Puerto Rican).
1. Dance the Night Away at La Placita de Santurce
La Placita de Santurce is a historic farmers market in San Juan by day that comes alive at night from Thursdays through Sundays and transforms into La Placita, the epicenter of the most vibrant Puerto Rican nightlife.
The sounds of our music pour out of open-air bars and you’ll find everyone from college students to abuelitos dancing in the streets with drinks in hand.
This is where the raw energy of our culture fills the streets.
It’s not just a night out; it’s a true Puerto Rican experience that will help you understand why we proudly say “yo soy boricua, pa’ que tu lo sepas!“
2. Take a Tour of Loiza: Our Folkore, Art Traditions and Bomba y Plena
Want to experience the soul of Puerto Rican music?
Say hello to Bomba y Plena on this Art and Culture Tour in Loiza!
Your journey for this tour begins in Loíza, the birthplace of Bomba—a powerful dance of expression that has been passed down through generations.
Here, you’ll learn how Puerto Rico came to be, including stories of Cacique Luisa, the powerful indigenous leader who gave Loíza its name.
You will also visit the home and studio of Samuel Lind, one of our most celebrated artists.
Born and raised in Loíza, Samuel’s artwork captures the essence of Loiceño and Taíno culture, showing how these traditions blend and live on today.
His paintings and sculptures tell the story of our Afro-Caribbean life in vibrant colors and have been exhibited worldwide.
You’ll also meet the Vejigante, the colorful, mysterious character who brings our folklore to life during festivals on the island like the world-known Fiestas de la Calle de San Sebastían.
You’ll discover how these iconic masks are crafted, their significance in our celebrations, and why they’re so central to Loiceño culture.
The journey of this culture-rich tour culminates with the powerful rhythms of Bomba.
Watch, learn, and feel the freedom of this traditional dance style where every drum beat tells a story of survival and joy.
Although this isn’t your typical tourist activity it’s one of the top things you don’t want to miss when you visit Puerto Rico.
This immersive tour is an invitation to experience a piece of our soul, where art, music, and history come together to show why we’re so proud of our heritage!

Housed in the historic building of the former Cuartel de Ballajá (Ballajá Barracks), military barracks in Old San Juan built between 1854 and 1864, this museum tells the complete story of who we are as people.
Walk through exhibitions that showcase our rich blend of Taíno, African, and European heritage, and explore pieces that represent our folklore and traditions—from Santos (hand-carved religious figures) to carnival masks.
4. Spend a Day in Piñones For Culture, Chinchorreo and Sandy Toes
A typical Sunday for a Boricua on the island includes…
Driving around in Piñones and stopping at every chinchorro (kiosks with inexpensive local street food). You’ll also be either all dressed up (just for the drive, because why not?!) or wearing nothing but swimsuits and flip-flops!
As you can tell, just mere minutes from San Juan, Piñones is where locals go to get their dose of authentic Puerto Rican flavors, iconic beach life and the chinchorreo.
You can enjoy the drive or just walk along the mangroves to find kiosks serving up our best street food such as alcapurrias, bacalaítos, and fresh coconut water.
But let me also say this, Piñones is more than just the food, music, and sandy toes.
This is one of the centers of Afro-Puerto Rican culture and it holds many of our childhood memories.
Today, this area is widely known by those coming to visit the island.
Piñones is one of the best ways to experience a side of Puerto Rico that feels untouched by mass tourism and that is all about culture.
5. Cueva del Indio Trek (from San Juan)
Enough about food.
Now picture yourself standing atop rugged cliffs and hearing the waves as they crash right below you!
Cueva del Indio is one of my favorite places in Puerto Rico and ‘ll always recommend it because it’s just so special.
This guided adventure tour from San Juan starts with a challenging but rewarding hike past seven natural stone arches that offer some of the most stunning photo opportunities on the island.
You’ll be able to enter Cueva del Indio (Cave of the Taíno Indian) and see ancient petroglyphs that tell stories of Puerto Rico’s first inhabitants.
After a completely immersive experience with nature and our ancient history, your tour guide will lead the way to Poza del Obispo Beach.
This beach is ideal for a relaxing swim or to soak up the sun before they wrap up the tour and start heading back to San Juan.
Cueva del Indio is a special place that not a lot of tourists get to experience due to their packed itineraries when visiting the island.
For your next visit to Puerto Rico, take a day to slow down during your vacation and book this cave tour.
You’ll thank me later!

🚓 Is Puerto Rico Safe to Visit?
As a Puerto Rican, I’m often asked about safety in Puerto Rico.
And well, the answer is yes!
Puerto Rico is very tourist-friendly. Popular areas like Old San Juan, Condado, Isla Verde, and major attractions are well-patrolled and safe to explore.
Just like in any other destination, common sense goes a long way.
Keep these travel safety tips in mind when visiting:
- Tourist areas are lively and safe, especially during the day
- Use the same street smarts you’d use in any city
- Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings
- Stick to well-lit, populated areas at night
- Ask your hotel staff for local advice and recommendations
The best part? Puerto Ricans are known for our warmth and hospitality!
So don’t be surprised if locals offer directions or suggestions.
We love sharing our island with visitors and are always up for a good conversation!
