6 Must-Do Activities to Enjoy on Your Romantic North Georgia Getaway

As an outdoors lover and hiking enthusiast, North Georgia always seems to captivate me. Its stunning scenery, waterfalls, and all-around outdoorsy vibe, really do hit differently. Furthermore, a stay in a unique glamping dome nestled in the Appalachian Mountains can be the most romantic North Georgia Getaway.

Glamping in North Georgia is one of those reasons why road trips to the Peach State are my favorites!

If you’ve never had the experience of spending the night outdoors, whether it be camping or glamping, you’re in for a treat when staying in this cute dome set in a ‘Glampground‘ in the woods.

But first, what’s all this glamping experience about?

And what is the difference between glamping and camping?

What is Glamping?

You can think about glamping as being the complete opposite of camping. The term glamping comes from the words “glamorous camping“, which refers to luxury camping.

Glamping gets you the experience of sleeping outdoors, but with all the comfort and luxury you would have in a hotel room, like a real bed, bathrooms (common in most campground facilities), running water, a fridge, a microwave, and everything you need to enjoy a comfortable stay.

When you’re glamping, all you need to bring is your personal items because everything else is provided for you.

What is Camping?

Let’s break this one down in simple terms… to sleep in a tent out in the wilderness. Pretty much. When you go camping you prepare a tent and bare essentials to get ready to sleep outdoors under the stars.

Thousands of people experience camping at least once in their lifetime and either love or hate it. As for me, even though I’m deeply in love with the outdoors, I’m kind of in between.

For both of these options, you’ll mostly be looking into campsites or campgrounds that either host glamping or have spaces available for booking where you can set up your camping tent.

Some campgrounds have accessibility to restrooms and others don’t, which is something to keep in mind when choosing your glamping or camping destinations.

Is Glamping Better than Camping?

This really just comes down to a personal preference and the type of glamping experience you choose to have.

Glamping tents, domes, cabins, treehouses, and yurts, are some of the most popular glamping experiences in the U.S. Each of these glamping options is unique, with pros and cons that can’t really compare to one another.

Take this glamping dome for example. It’s tucked in the woods of the Appalachian Mountains where you can enjoy the mesmerizing sounds of the Chattahoochee River.

You can even sit by the fire or grill your favorite food all while being surrounded by Mother Nature. It’s absolute perfection if you ask me!

Although it’s the best setting for a romantic getaway, glamping domes are not for everyone. And that’s okay!

This glamping dome is located in Hiawassee, just 20 minutes north of Alpine Helen, a picturesque German-inspired town well-known for its annual Oktoberfest festivities.

We were already staying in Helen before it was time to check in at the dome, which is both convenient and a fun option to consider if you want to add multiple destinations to your getaway.

Now, let me make a pause right here.

I can’t continue writing about this without sharing that the curvy roads on the Unicoi Turnpike are no joke!

Thankfully, I wasn’t feeling anxious or anything. Nonetheless, it’s a very scenic drive.

Now…back to the dome. It’s set on a private campground just off the highway and there’s this small bridge right when you’re entering that is super cute for pictures!

Once you arrive at this unique glamping site, you will notice a sign that reads “The Glampground” right next to the dome, along with two airstreams right across the dome.

There is also a small building right between the two–this is the restroom/laundry area.

Inside This Super Cute Glamping Dome

The dome looks much smaller from the outside than it actually is. It’s very spacious and includes all the amenities you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay.

There is a super comfy queen bed, with amazing heated blankets. Did I mention it has heated blankets? Lawd!!! Those heated blankets were heaven-sent!

There’s also a mini-fridge, microwave, and heating stove that was great at keeping us warm since it had been raining all night during our stay and it was very chilly!

It’s because of the rain that I regret only one thing and it’s that we couldn’t sit and relax by the fire outside.

However, we did get to hear the sound of the rain from inside the dome and it was magical!

I love the idea of trying it in North Georgia with all those great views. Breakfast at the German bakery would certainly add to the treat of a few days in this wilderness.
